I grew up on the west coast. I was born near San Francisco, lived in Walla Walla, WA and graduated from high school outside of Portland, OR. Yes, you now officially know someone who has lived in Walla Walla. During high school I was a two sport letterman in Soccer and Track. I also played trombone in multiple bands including symphonic, jazz and marching. I was an officer in the National Honor Society and a member of a state championship speech and debate team.
After graduating from high school, I attended the University of Arizona on an Air Force ROTC scholarship, earning a degree in Atmospheric Sciences. There is something to be said for being able to ride around campus wearing shorts in December! On May 13, 1994 I was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. My first duty station was Tyndall Air Force Base, near Panama City, FL. That's also where I got my start in television. If you've been around long enough, you may remember Bill Shubert who worked mornings for WSEE. He and I worked together at WJHG in Panama City.
I returned to Tucson in 1996 after being reassigned to Davis-Monthan AFB. It took a year, but I finally caught on with the CBS affiliate there, KOLD, and was hired as the weekend meteorologist. It was good to get back into television.
In April, 2000 I transitioned from active duty to the reserves and was hired as the chief meteorologist at WICU. It was a bit of transition to go from the sunny deserts of Arizona to the frozen tundra of Erie. I left 100 degree summers and arrived to the snowiest winter on record at that point. Immediately after 9/11, I was mobilized to active duty for a year and spent that time working for my old squadron at Davis-Monthan in Tucson.
I met my wife, Maggie, in March of 2004. We had our first date at Presque Isle, and the next year we were married on the beach there. I left military service that fall, and since then we have had two incredible children, Mya and Dashel. We enjoy going to the beaches of Presque Isle, building sand castles and playing in the water.
Outside of work and home, I enjoy working out, playing tennis, and working as the assistant coach for the McDowell High School Speech and Debate team.
