Valentine's Day cards available December 26th.
Fourth of July plates and napkins for sale by the fourth of April.
Does anyone else wonder why holidays are no longer able to contain themselves within their time?
Growing up in this part of the world with four fully defined seasons gives us a sense of the rhythm of nature as summer is followed by autumn followed by winter.
Seeing Halloween decorations in August tends to throw off the timing.
The Christmas holiday season may be the worst.
The Festival of Trees is a great family experience in our area.
For going on 27 years now, the holiday season has been enhanced by the rows of beautiful trees all decked out by the various companies and agencies around town, a dazzling visual display that really helps generate the holiday spirit.
But it starts the day BEFORE Thanksgiving and runs through the weekend.
Can't we at least sleep off our turkey hangover first?
It's hardly the worst offender.
The first time I saw Christmas decorations on store shelves this year we were shopping for back-to-school clothes for the girls.
While it may be true that to everything there is a season, it's also true that the competition for seasonal dollars is expanding those seasons beyond common sense.
We should keep that in mind when the holiday shopping gets fully underway with the traditional Black Friday store openings.
But of course this year, Black Friday is starting at 10 o'clock Thursday night.
It's never too early, I guess.
