Presque Isle Downs & Casino is kicking off of its sixth season of horse racing on Tuesday, and it is sure to be full of family fun, with T-shirts given to the first 500 people and dollar Smith hot dogs. Doors will open at 4:30 and racing starts at 5:25.
The jockeys and horses have been getting ready for the big day, prepping for months now, and are ready to show fans just what they've been working on.
"We're very excited about testing our toys tomorrow, to see how we play the game with everyone who has done the same thing," said horse owner and trainer Wayne Rice. "We're all meeting here to play ball and turn the lights on and see who's horse can out run who."
The jockeys enjoy racing on the track here at Presque Isle Downs because of its safe surface and they like interacting with the people that come out to see the racing.
"We always have good racing here in Erie, very strong horses and people bring the best up here to race," said jockey for Wayne Rice horse Arienne Cox. "It'll be a lot of fun and hopefully we have a great crowd."
The races are every Tuesday through Saturday at 5:25, with 8 races each night.
