The skies over Meadville will be full of color this weekend. It's the 24th annual Thurston Balloon Classic.
The event starts Thursday evening with a "night glow." Then flights and races are scheduled Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Of course everything depends on the weather.
Twenty-seven balloons are registered, with crews coming from many states. Putting the event together takes plenty of community support and nearly a year of preparation.
Chairman Ted Watts said, "We have about a month off where we take a breath. Then we get together and talk about what went well, what didn't and how to fix it. Then we start moving into next year's project."
The yearly event is always a big boost to Meadvile motels and restaurants.
