The Meadville Police Department and other city offices won't be moving out of city hall as soon as expected.
The city had originally hoped to be out of the building by July 1, moving to the former National Guard Armory on Diamond Park. The move is necessary because the city is leasing the current city hall for a corporate headquarters for Ainsworth Pet Foods.
But the renovation work is taking longer than expected. And the city was spending more money trying to meet the tight schedule.
So now, the deadline will be pushed back 2 months for the police and longer for other city offices.
Meadville City Manager Joe Chriest said, "August 31 when we vacate, the police department will move into the armory. The rest of us will go into a temporary location which is yet to be determined. But hopefully we will have a location in the next couple of weeks."
The projected cost of the renovations is about $2.3 million.
