New high tech surveillance cameras will soon be scanning locations along Erie's bayfront.
The Erie Port Authority plans to spend about $350,000 to replace older cameras at locations including Lampe Marina and Dobbins Landing. A federal grant is paying for the ugrades.
And the authority says several more cameras will be added in the near future, including cameras tied into radar units sweeping Presque Isle Bay and Lake Erie.
Port Authority Executive Ray Schreckengost said, "The entire system is geared around protecting the border, and identifying anybody that is coming in and doing any kind of suspicious activity and being able to interdict them."
Once completed, the entire system will be tied into the U.S. Coast Guard, Homeland Security and the 911 Center.
