Governor Corbett's budget cuts have been the source of much debate in recent months, and today a protest in downtown Erie brought out police forces.
For the past few weeks it's been peaceful protests downtown by a group calling for action against budget cuts to human services.
They gathered on State Street earlier today in front of the building which houses the governor's Erie office.
Within a few minutes, the protesters moved into the street, blocking traffic completely.
The Erie Police were called in, but the demonstrators didn't give up their position easily. They resisted forces, and one woman was arrested.
The protesters remained on the scene after moving out of the road, now under the watch of the police.
The protesters felt the issues at hand were too important to give up.
"people with disabilities are gonna lose their independence," said protester Shona Eakans. Others said that the group needed to take more drastic measures to get their voices heard.
The cuts will take away from disability support programs and rehabilitation services, which many of the people who were at the protest rely on.
