Crackdowns on bus safety are on the rise, and that was one focus of a convention today downtown.
The Pennsylvania Bus Association met today at the Bayfront Convention Center to go over safety issues and guidelines.
A representative from the Department of Transportation spoke at the event. She highlighted some violations that are grounds for shutting a bus company down.
"What we saw on the companies that we shut down were key areas where they had gross negligence in terms of putting profits before safety," said Anne Ferro of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
The FMCSA has shut down twenty six private bus companies nationwide in the past month, eleven of which are right here in Pennsylvania, mostly in the Philadelphia area.
