A 13-year-old boy is fighting for his life after getting thrown off his all terrain vehicle in Waterford. It happened around 7:30 p.m. on Seroka Rd.
Waterford assistant fire chief Harry Latta said the young boy was driving the ATV at a high rate of speed on the dirt road. He eventually lost control, crashing into a metal post and then a tree head on.
"They're really not meant for the road. They're for recreational purposes and on trails and that but these individuals were riding on a roadway at a high rate of speed which most definitely attributed to the injury," said Latta.
Luckily the boy was wearing a helmet, but it did come off during the crash. He suffered a closed head injury and was airlifted to UPMC Hamot. He was listed in critical condition.
