George Schmidt is an Iraq war veteran with a love for gaming. Right now, he's into a game called Starcraft II. But it's not all about fun and games for George and his gaming partner, Jerry.
"What it is is we're two army veterans and we both have PTSD and we use gaming as a way to try to help us get back some normalcy in life," said Schmidt.
The Titusville native was diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder in 2008. Gaming helps him retrain his mind.
"One of the problems you have with PTSD is your decision making process is broken and you're all reaction and there's no real thought. Starcraft II forces you to put out a plan and work your plan," he said.
He's planning to put his passion to good use. On June 30th, Schmidt and his gaming partner will play Starcraft II for 24 straight hours to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project. How it works is they'll stream their gaming online, where people can watch all around the world and donate.
Their goal is to raise $50,000 and a better understanding of their disorder.
"Those of us that do have PTSD, we're like everybody else. We're just trying to cope and get along a little bit better," he said.
It's a unique idea that's not just about winning and losing, but more, getting through the game of life.
