Erie police are investigating a disturbing case of animal cruelty. A kitten is reportedly tortured by kids, and barely survives.
It's a disturbing case, and a surprise that this kitten even made it through the night.
And unfortunately this is a case that rescuers say they see all too often.
Rescuers took a picture of the abused kitten, shortly after it was found, barely alive.
Sunday afternoon, Erie police responded to a home along Buffalo road, for a report of kids torturing the kitten.
Tossing it in the air, and letting it slam to the concrete, several times.
The cat wound up at the A.N.N.A. Shelter with severe injuries, including brain damage and a sprained spine.
He wasn't expected to survive, but an area veterinarian was able to save him.
Meantime, animal rescuers say unfortunately, this isn't an isolated incident.
So they're taking this case to urge people to come forward if they ever see it.
"This doesn't happen overnight, so if you see this happening, like the lady did with the kids throwing the kitten in the air and letting it slam to the ground over and over, she called the police. She did the right thing. The police responded get the kitten away from the kids. So do the right thing. We have to do the right thing by these animals, they can't make the phone call." Said Ruth Thompson Carroll with the A.N.N.A. Shelter.
"Report it as soon as possible. The sooner we can get there and catch them in the act or stop it before it gets too serious, call right away. Don't be afraid to call." Said Erie's Animal Enforcement Officer, Rob Culbertson.
Because the kids weren't caught in the act, it's hard for police to charge. Culbertson is still investigating the case.
