Weed harvesting in Chautauqua Lake is getting a boost.
New York State is giving the Chautauqua Lake Association $50,000 to put a third weed harvesting machine into service. Right now only two machines are cutting the weeds that clog the lake, causing problems for boaters, swimmers, and property owners.
The money comes in addition to $80,000 recently approved by the Chautauqua County legislature.
Leaders of the Chautauqua Lake Association say it is important to step up the weed harvesting because the lake is critical to the region's tourist economy.
