Restaurant Report Card - July 12th

Posted: Updated:

Two restaurants in the same town top this week's list with the most violations and a follow-up to a restaurant at the docks that made the list last week.

The Health Department has more than one dozen health inspectors who check up on restaurants across Lucas County.

During the latest two week period,  the two restaurants with the most violations were in Sylvania. Koto Buki on Monroe street had 13 violations, but six of them were all related to a broken under counter cooler.

Inspectors noted the under counter cooler was hotter than 41 degrees Fahrenheit, so they threw out the food. There was rust on the shelves of the under counter cooler and the cooler had a torn cooler door gasket.

The report stated it was a sushi cooler, but the manager told 13abc over the phone, "That cooler is not used for our sushi. We use it for our salad, canned dressing and our sodas in that cooler. So, it was nothing that was perishable. The under counter cooler just needed some maintenance and it was taken care of within four hours."

In this latest batch of reports, the only restaurant with more violations than Koto Buki was The Village Inn. It had 14 violations, including five repeats.

Inspectors noted: there was duct tape on the peanut machine, outdated lunch meat in the prep top cooler -- it was thrown out and new equipment was added without the approval of the health department -- a 4th fryer and steamer now block the hand and mop sink.

13abc left our phone number with an employee and we're still waiting to hear back from a manager.

We did hear from an owner at Admiral's American Grill at The Docks. Last week, it made the list with 20 violations.

This week, the owner says, "We're in good standing with the health department. We take their findings and their reports very seriously, and we strive to maintain the highest standards."

"All the issues that they found were minor, and we've corrected every single one of them."

From two Restaurants in Sylvania  to two on Lewis Avenue. Starting with Daffy's Thirsty Duck.   During the last standard inspection, This duck was violation free.

Same goes for Knotty Pine Café, where it's all clear; no violations.  When it comes to a clean bill of health, Knotty is nice.

Here are some more restaurants with no violations:  Hungry Howie's on Douglas in Toledo, General's Ice Cream in Whitehouse and the Roadhouse Inn on South Reynolds.

Plus, Lenny's on Airport Highway in Toledo and Penguin palace along River Road in Maumee are all violation free.
