Erie police have identified the 25-year-old man who died following a shooting on Erie's east side.
The victim is identified as Teverous Williams. Friday afternoon, police were still piecing together how the shooting happened. So far, they have made no arrests.
It all happened around 2:15 Friday morning, near East 19th and Ash Streets. Erie police received numerous calls about gunfire starting around 2:10 a.m. It turns out Williams was shot once in the abdomen. He died a short time later while undergoing emergency surgery at UPMC Hamot.
Family members tell us that Friday was William's birthday, and he was out celebrating at the time of the shooting.
The coroner's office started an autopsy on Williams at 3:00 Friday afternoon.
Police spent the morning at the shooting scene, looking for evidence.
Initial 911 calls indicated a man was shot in the stomach. Before emergency crews arrived, a passerby at the scene took Williams to the hospital. Police are still looking for the driver of that car tonight.
"We're still tracking down the vehicle and what the relationship is, if any, between the party in the vehicle and the victim himself," said Erie Police Chief Steve Franklin.
Right now, police do not have any suspects in custody, but they are interviewing witnesses and neighbors to see if they saw or heard anything. If you have any information, you're asked to call Erie Police at 814-870-1120.
