Cooling Stations Offer Relief In Millcreek

Posted: Updated:

In this heat, Millcreek Fire Officials aren't taking any chances, when it comes to safety.

So, they're utilizing fire stations across the township, and turning them into cooling stations for these hot summer months.

The stations are air Conditioned, offering a nice, safe area for people who may not have air conditioning as a way to cool off.  They'll also offer bottled water, and a place to relax if you feel you're working too hard or for too long in this heat.

Across the country this summer, there have been hundreds of cases of heat related injuries, and even a few cases of death.

Wednesday afternoon, we met up with Bob Mitchell, Chief Fire Inspector for Millcreek Township. He says when it comes to these hot temperatures and especially these high heat indexes, it's safety first.

"It's just a proactive move," he said.  "Certainly we don't want to have anybody injured or heat exhaustion let alone heat stroke. But the availability, it's just kind of the townships way of saying this is a good neighbor effort."

Those cooling stations are available now, and they will remain available as long as the weather is hot.  And, even though the stations are set up in Millcreek, they're available to anyone from any area who needs a break from the heat.
