The Erie School District is recalling some furloughed teachers.
However, it is not clear how many.
About 70 teachers have been furloughed over the past two years because of budget problems. It may take a few weeks into the new school year for enrollment to stabilize before it's known how many teachers will be called back. That's along with the addition of some new hires.
We've hired 10 new teachers," says superintendent Jay Badams. "We anticipate calling back a significant number of teachers. As those enrollment numbers stabilize, we will probably make some shifts of staff. We may move a teacher from that sort of school to other locations that stabilize. We may intend to hire."
School closings have shifted a number of teachers to different schools this fall.
