After brief public comment regarding the project, the Summit Township Supervisors all agreed that voting yes for the Lord Corporation TIF Plan would be a win-win situation for everyone involved.
The TIF is essentially a tax break for Lord. The company will, however, still be paying taxes. In fact, Summit Township, Erie County and Fort LeBoeuf School District will all be seeing an increase from what they're receiving now.
Some residents were concerned with the fact that 80% of the revenue will be going back to Lord, but supervisors said that's only for a certain amount of time and it's important to look at the bigger picture.
"We just think its a win-win situation for everyone," said Summit Township Supervisor Nancy Agostine. "Its keeps a quality employer here, it takes care of a potential white elephant that Summit Township could be facing and it keeps quality jobs in the area."
Fort LeBoeuf School District and Erie County still need to give their approval of the TIF Plan. The school board could vote as soon as September 20.
