Police Searching For Motive In Deadly Shooting

Posted: Updated:

That shooting we first told you about Wednesday night has turned deadly.
And Erie detectives have spent the day sorting out the details, and looking for the shooters.

Gunfire erupts around 10:30 Wednesday night, outside of a home at 25th and Reed.
Two men on a porch, gunned down.
28 year old John Cargile died on his way to the hospital, 24 year old Stetson Sanders is hospitalized.

"We heard one of the injured boys' sisters running out of the house very hysterical, yelling, 'my brother's shot in the stomach, my brother's shot in the stomach. + There was lot of tears a lot of people crying." Said a neighbor and witness, Courtney Wasielewski.

Erie police have been interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence to figure out just what transpired.
They're trying to identify and find two men, seen leaving the crime scene.
"We know there was some type of altercation, or argument. They could year people yelling just prior to the shots being fired." Said Erie Police Chief Steve Franklin.

While police look for a motive, neighbors we caught up with say they hope police make an arrest soon.
"I have a baby.Imagine if I was standing on the porch it could have been me. You know anything could have happened it doesn't make us comfortable. 25th is not a bad block." Said Wasielewski.
"It's a real tragedy because lives were taken, people were hurt, families are going to lose loved ones on both sides. Somebody's going to the graveyard, somebody's going to prison for life." Said Tyrone Morrow of Erie.

And this isn't the first tragedy for the Cargile family.
Two years ago, John Cargile's brother, Tayron Cargile was killed in a drug-related homicide at on East 6th street in Erie.
And it's these crimes, that has some neighbors yearning for a solution.
"I just want the people around here in this community to take a look at what's really happening. Look how our children are dying.Something's got to be done." Said Morrow.

Erie police say Wednesday night's shooting was not random, but again, they're still looking for suspects and a motive
