More details on the head-on crash involving a state trooper, that we first told you about Tuesday night.
Traffic accidents are one of the leading causes of death among on-duty police officers.
Fortunately in this case, the trooper walked away with minor injuries, but this accident serves as a reminder of what could happen.
The accident happened just before 9:00 p.m. Tuesday night along Interstate-90, in the westbound lanes, near the Peach street exit.
A state police cruiser was in the median, with its lights flashing, to alert drivers of the construction zone.
State police say that's when 55 year old Vincent Cole swerved into the shoulder and hit the cruiser head-on.
The impact pushed the cruiser back nearly 40 feet. It's totaled.
Emergency crews took both Cole, and Trooper Terry Dawdy to the hospital.
Fortunately, Dawdy was treated for minor injuries and released, Cole was admitted with moderate injuries.
And state police say this could have been a lot worse.
"Today's cars have a lot of modern safety features in them. The air bag deployed, it protected the trooper in that respect. But he's sore, he'll be back at work tomorrow so this could have been a lot worse for a lot more people involved not only for our trooper but for motorists as well." Said Sgt. Mark Zaleski with Pa State Police.
State police are still investigating, and say Cole will be charged with driving under the influence, along with other summary offenses.
