Local war veterans were hitting the golf course Friday afternoon, as part of readjustment counseling for vets who recently returned home.
In all, 48 veterans came out for the first annual Best Ball Scramble, which is part of the War Zone Golf Program.
12 teams of 4 hit the Harbor Ridge Golf course Friday afternoon, each team paired veterans from the Vietnam War, with veterans from Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom or Operation New Dawn.
The event was created as a way to keep open communication between veterans.
That way, the vets can speak with each other about problems they're having readjusting to life with their families.
After the 9 hole scramble, the colors were presented, and representatives from the Veteran's Center, and Erie County Council thanked the veterans for their service.
"There's veterans past, present and even going to be in the future and we need to be together as a collective whole to take care and look out for one another," said 1st Sgt. Scott Hesson of the United States Marine Corps. "So something like this, is fantastic."
The day wrapped up with a luncheon after the ceremony. Organizers tell us they're already busy planning next year's scramble.
