DNC ready in Charlotte

Posted: Updated:
CHARLOTTE, North Carolina -

Convention organizers are hoping to make this year's DNC one of the most accessible ever!  Many of the events this week will be open to the public - including Monday's Carolina Fest.

At the intersection of Tryon and Trade Streets in Uptown Charlotte, a stage will be set up where singer James Taylor will headline an outdoor concert.  There will also be a parade to kick off the festivities, and food and retail vendors will line the street for blocks.

On Tuesday, the convention will move here to the Time Warner Cable Arena for the first official day of the DNC.

More than 6,000 delegates from all 50 states and other U.S. territories will fill the convention floor.  On Tuesday, they'll hear First Lady Michelle Obama speak, and on Wednesday former President Bill Clinton will deliver the nominating address.  Wednesday is also the day the delegates will take care of the roll call vote  to officially nominate President Obama and Vice-President Biden for a second term.

On Thursday, the convention will move here - the Bank of America stadium - home of the Carolina Panthers - about a mile away the Arena.

This is where both Vice-President Biden and then President Obama will accept the party's nomination.  The campaign is once again opening Thursday's events up for the public to attend.  They did the same thing four years ago in Denver at Invesco field

And all the television magic will happen at  the media workspace at the Charlotte Convention Center - in between the Arena and the Stadium.  Media will be able to see a feed of what's happening on the convention floor the whole time.

At the end of the day, along with the delegates, reporters return to the host hotel in the Charlotte suburbs.  Each morning, the delegates will gather for breakfast and listen to speakers from their states - and then it's back out to the convention site where we will do it all over again.
