State Police in Meadville are still looking for the person that prompted a major manhunt in Crawford County. A large showing of state police tried to talk a man, believed to be armed, out of a wooded area in Cussewago Township. This started Sundat afternoon. SERT, the state police emergency response team was called to an area near Hecker, Center and East Forest Roads, south of Edinboro.
Drivers along Interstate 79 south of Edinboro say a line of state police vehicles were visible along the side of the highway. Neighbors along East Forest Road were even evacuated from their homes and some people were even prevented from coming home. Carla Vega told us, "It's scary." She was not allowed to return to her home after work. She says she understood that police have been trying to protect the neighbors. She was told to stay with family members.
Neighbors tell us the man police describe as "distraught" is from Edinboro, but knows the woods in Cussewago Township, because he hunts there. Police have not confirmed that report. Another neighbor says the search area touches her parent's property. On Sunday night, residents reported hearing police on a bull horn trying to talk the man out of the woods.
Just last Friday, SERT was called out to a similar incident at an apartment building in Littles Corners. A six hour stand off there ended in a suicide.
