We have more details on a big effort to cut truancy rates at Strong Vincent High School.
The beefed up patrols we told you about earlier this week, are just part of it. It's a 3-year, $150,000 project funded by the United Way. The young people are getting counseling, encouragement and guidance about the benefits of going to school and graduating.
Project Director Joe Markiewicz of Penn State Behrend said, "This is a little different than other truancy projects in the past because we're concentrating on whatever the young person's strengths are opposed to what are their deficiencies so we want to motivate youth to come to school."
A full time project coordinator is working at the school with students, teachers and administrators.
