Newfoundland, Canada braces for Tropical Storm Leslie

Posted: Updated:
SAINT-PIERRE, Canada -

Tropical Storm Leslie is racing toward Newfoundland, and Canada's easternmost point is bracing for impact.  The tropical storm has maximum sustained winds of 70 mph, early this Monday evening, and it will pass well east of New England tonight.  The storm is racing north-northeast at 35 mph, and it will likely make landfall tomorrow morning in Newfoundland.  Beyond a storm surge with potential for some coastal flooding, the eastern tip of Canada will receive 2" to 4" of rain as well as tropical storm force winds.

Meanwhile, Hurricane Michael continues to spin over the open water of the central Atlantic.
