Romney campaign gets aggressive in Ohio

Posted: Updated:
CINCINNATI -

The Romney campaign is picking up the pace - getting aggressive - and getting in front of voters in the crucial state of Ohio.

This intense campaigning comes after criticism that the Romney campaign isn't connecting with voters.

They're under pressure. And the stakes are high. Republicans are calling on Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan to deliver a sharp message- to ramp up the campaigning.

This bus tour is not just drawing crowds of voters but big political names like Ohio Senator rob Portman and Chairman of the Republican party Reince Priebus.

Even after the Republican Convention, even after spending millions on advertising, even after picking a running mate most republicans seem to like - Mitt Romney is still behind in polls in nearly every swing state. Now is the time for a comeback - Chairman Prebius says it's all about this: "The return of the America that we know and love and are searching for. "

the failure of team Romney-Ryan to catch fire with voters could have a bad effect on Republicans in down-ticket races like the one between Democratic Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown and his Republican challenger Josh Mandel. But Mandel says he's not worried.

Democrats are trying to defend their lead in Ohio - former Governor Strickland is on a dueling bus tour - stopping in all the same cities as Ryan and Romney.  The goal - cut into the Romney camp's media message.

The President is playing along as well - with plans to stop in Bowling Green while Romney is in Toledo Wednesday.

His bus trip is all about the must-win state of Ohio and about shoring up the Republican ticket's image before the big debates begin next week.
