Falcons Compete At Bradley Classic

Posted: Updated:

PEORIA, ILL. – The Bowling Green State University men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Bradley Classic Friday afternoon, completing their final tune-up meet before the MAC Championships.

"We took a nice step today as a team," said head coach Lou Snelling. "Especially as we approach our most important meets of the cross country season."
The men picked up a 15th place team finish, completing the 8K course in a total time of 2:11.57, and an average time of 26:23.30.

Senior Josh Franek once again led the way for the Orange and Brown, setting a personal best with his 25.49 time, earning a 55th place finish. Freshman Tim Jurick finished second for the Falcons, completing the course in 26.09 for an 80th place finish. Junior Perry Fraylick also set a personal best, completing the course in 26.28, just over one minute under his previous 8K low. Junior Joe vanBolderen (26.42) and sophomore Tom Hipwell (26.50) rounded out the Falcons' top five.

"Josh (Franek) and (Tim Jurick) put together another good race," said Snelling. Perry also did well and had a huge lifetime PR to cross the line as our third runner."

The women finished sixth overall as a team in the 6K run, beating out 17 of the 23 teams that competed. The group finished with a total time of 1:49.50, and an average time of 21:57.84.

Redshirt junior Abby Koch paced the women, finishing the course in a personal best 21.40 to earn a 17th place finish. Sophomore Kendra Kezur came in second for the Orange and Brown with a time of 21.48, ranking 26th against the field. Redshirt freshmen Jasmine Redman (21.56) and Andrea Alt (21.57) we're not far behind, finishing in 31st and 34th place, respectively. Freshman Rebecca Rae rounded out the Falcons' top five, finishing with a time of 22.30 for a 67th place finish.

"We handled the size and quality of the field well, especially considering over half of our top six are freshmen and redshirt freshmen," said Snelling. "The girls have put themselves in a realistic position to achieve their goals at MAC and NCAA Regional Championships."

Bowling Green's next meet comes on Oct. 27, when the Falcons head back to Buffalo for the MAC Championships.
