Saint Vincent To Affiliate with Highmark

Officers of Saint Vincent Health System have called a 10:30 news conference to announce what is being called a 'strategic partnership" with the insurance giant Highmark.

Details of the partnership are not yet known.

It is the latest in a series of starts and stops in an increasingly competitive health care business in NW Pennsylvania, where the University of Pitt Medical Center offers both health care and insurance products, including a partnership with UPMC Hamot, Saint Vincent's main competitor.

A recent attempt by Highmark to purchase the West Penn hospital chain, UPMC's main competitor in Pittsburgh fell through.
