The Lucas County Pit Crew, an organization that promotes pit bull adoption and rescue, celebrated National Pit Bull Awareness Day with a special guest.
Kirby the pit bull survived being shot twice in the chest and being left for dead by the curb before being rescued by Toledo Police. He was taken to the vet, but his leg was amputated due to the injury.
He made his first public appearance since his injury at the event Saturday at Spring Meadows Plaza on Airport Highway.
The celebration featured a free rabies clinic, dogs for adoption and a pet costume contest.
