Large waves crash into Lake Erie coast as winds intensify overnight

OTTAWA COUNTY, Ohio -

Gusty winds are especially intense along the Lake Erie shoreline. Locations near and east of Port Clinton are dealing with the largest waves and most intense wind gusts.

Sustained winds are 45-55 mph near the shore, and offshore, as measured by buoys in western and central Lake Erie.

Waves crashed, and spray repeatedly soaked our crew, a few dozen yards from the end of a pier.

Computer models that predict wave height suggest 20' waves are likely just offshore of Port Clinton and the Marblehead Peninsula early this Tuesday.
