We are in the home stretch of this year's election, so on Tuesday night, the Manufacturers and Business Association held a "Meet the Candidates," giving voters the chance to talk the candidates personally before they vote.
Candidates have just one week left of vying for voters to give them the chance to represent Erie in state and federal government. For congressional candidates Mike Kelly and Missa Eaton, that means talking to voters.
"Since I got in office, I was spending as much time with the people in the district," said Congressman Kelly. "Every day, we get up early, stay out all day long, meeting people at their places of business, their school, their homes, their churches."
"Just getting out and meeting people and talking to them, finding out what their concerns are and figuring out how I can help them when I'm their representative," said Democratic Candidate Missa Eaton. "That's what its all about."
We caught up with State Senate candidates in the 49th District Janet Anderson and Sean Wiley. The two have been battling in a tight race. They talked about their campaigns, and the experiences that have come along with them.
"Its been a true learning experience," said Republican Candidate Anderson. "There is nothing like this. Its very exhilarating, very exciting. You have your highs and your lows, there's not doubt about it, but that's why its called a race."
"This has been a great opportunity and a great experience," said Democratic Candidate Wiley. "Regardless of what happens on November 6th, I am so happy with the way things have gone. I've learned a lot personally, my family and children have learned a lot. Its been great."
State Representative candidates for the 3rd District Jason Owen and Ryan Bizzarro have also run a close race. They say its all about seeing their campaign through to Election Day.
"We've hit 11,000 doors so far on this campaign and we continue to run that marathon because this is a critically important election," said Republican Candidate Owen. "We lose 34 years of experience on election night and we need people who are really going to hit the ground running and ready to fight for Erie County down in Harrisburg."
"Final push, getting out to vote, going door to door, meeting as many voters possible and still finding out what issues are exactly important to them and how state government can help alleviate the problems that they have," said Democratic Candidate Bizzarro.
This was a gathering for all candidates that will represent Erie County. We also spoke with those from the other races impacting voters, like Greg Lucas, Jason White and Congressman Glenn Thompson.
They all say the opportunity to talk with voters personally, and get their message out before Election Day, was important.
