After years of planning and fundraising, construction is underway on Erie's Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Workers are now busy putting up the memorial and landscaping the area.
It is located near 26th and State Street, close to the World War Two, Korean War, and Purple Heart Memorials.
Donations and some grants are being used to pay for the $250,000 memorial to the 67 Erie County veterans who lost their lives in Vietnam. Planners hope the memorial will bring some comfort to the families.
Memorial Co-Chairman Rick Lash said, "Well this is going to be someplace they can come with the family. We will have benches here they can sit on and reflect on the life of their son, husband or uncle who lost his life in Vietnam."
The memorial will be officially dedicated next Monday at 11 a.m.
