A charity that's all about giving bikes to terminally ill children held a Big Bash for Bikes this weekend at the Zem Zem Shrine Club. Cody's Wheels of Hope was founded in memory of Cody Filson who died of complications from kidney cancer, just short of his 5th birthday. His family gave the bicycle they had purchased for Cody to another hospitalized child instead, and the charity was born.
The Big Bash event was an indoor version of the popular dice and poker run fund raisers held around the region. It featured bands and food. Some of the bands donated bicycles to the cause. Cody's grandmother, Cindy Filson says they've given away more than 100 bicycles to children in 34 states. She says, "a smile is a smile and that's what we do for kids, we give them hope at a time when all they know is pain."
