About 400 people attended today's dedication of Erie's Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The stone panels include the names of all 67 Erie County veterans killed during the war.
The phase one portion unveiled today cost about $250,000. Phase two is expected to be done by next fall.
The patriotic ceremony honored those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and those who made it home. The ceremony came after 15 years of planning and fundraising.
Ken Kensill of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Committee said, "Thank God we got it up before we all passed away. We are all getting older. There are a lot of us who are not healed yet from Vietnam. We hope this wall will bring healing. It is a place of peace for people to go."
The memorial is located near 26th and State Street, close to the World War Two, Korean War, and Purple Heart Memorial.
