Hundreds of high school students filled the Mary D'Angelo center at Mercyhurst University Saturday afternoon.
They came for the first academic sports league competition of the year.
Teams from local schools stepped up to the challenge, including Central, Strong Vincent, Cathedral Prep and Collegiate Academy.
They were joined by top high school students from 21 schools in western PA and Eastern Ohio, for the super quiz relay; it's the last leg of the competition, which also included a written test and interview portion.
"Each day we would do speech and interview, then we'd go over language and literature, art and music," Central Sophomore Brandy Alexander said of her team's study routine.
"It lets you learn something outside of what you're learning in school, so it almost makes us more cultured," said Strong Vincent Senior Martina Coccarelli.
Mcdowell High School came in third, Collegiate Academy was second, and first place went to Moniteau High School in Butler County.
