The Millcreek Police Department is investigating a shooting during an attempted armed robbery at the Beer 4 Less store at 2756 West 12th Street near Peninsula Drive. In this case, police say the store clerk shot at the suspect, who was found unresponsive nearby. Millcreek Paramedics transported the man to UPMC Hamot where he was pronounced dead.
The incident happened at 8:18 PM Saturday night. Dispatchers reported an armed robbery, with one person shot, and an armed suspect seen running from the store. When WICU/WSEE arrived on the scene, we saw paramedics performing chest compressions on the shooting victim as they put him into an ambulance. Millcreek police were interviewing people still inside the store about exactly what happened.
A short time later, police issued a brief news release. They say a male suspect wearing dark clothing, a ski mask and carrying what appeared to be a silver handgun entered the store and demanded money from the clerk. The clerk was armed with a handgun and shot at the suspect, who left the store and ran north on Filmore Avenue.
Emergency crews and police responding found the man down and unresponsive, in the 1100 block of Filmore. Police have not identified the person killed in the shooting or the person who pulled the trigger. The investigation is continuing.
