The Erie County Coroner's office has released the name of the alleged robber shot and killed during an attempted hold up at a Millcreek beer distributor Saturday night. The shooting victim is 21 year old Patrick Atkins of Lake City. An autopsy performed Sunday, found that the man died of a single gunshot wound to the chest.
Millcreek police say about 8:20 PM on Saturday, a man wearing dark clothing, a ski mask and carrying what appeared to be a silver handgun entered the Beer 4 Less store on West 12th Street and demanded money from the clerk. After their initial investigation, investigators say, the clerk was armed with a handgun and shot at the suspect who left the store, and headed north on Filmore Avenue. Rescuers found the man down and unresponsive, not far from the store, in the 1100 block of Fillmore. Paramedics tried to revive the victim. They transported him to UPMC Hamot Trauma Center, where he was dead on arrival.
Millcreek detectives spent hours Sunday conducting interviews and working the case. Officials say they will wrap up that investigation on Monday.
