An improvement project is now underway to open up access to Six Mile Creek Park in Harborcreek.
Township crews are clearing land for a parking lot and a road from Clark Road to the site. And they will also be building a half-mile handicapped accessible trail, and fencing to protect nearby private property.
Erie County owned the 450 acre park since the late 1960's, but the land basically sat untouched. It was turned over to Harborcreek last year, with the township now improving access.
Township Supervisor Joe Peck said, "It is very unique for this area. It has cliffs and streams that are more in line with what you see in the big mountains, a very beautiful area back there. This will provide a visible and very easily accessible access into the park which will open up operations for hiking, bird watching, hunting and trail biking riding. So I think you will see a lot of use of that property."
Supervisors say they plan to keep the park in it's natural state.
