Supporters of a proposed charter boarding school in Erie have made a change in their application, eliminating high school grades, at least for now. The school would be located in the former Roosevelt School on Cranberry Street.
If the Erie School Board approves the charter school application next month, the school would open next August for students in kindergarten through 5th grade. Other grades would be added later.
Supporters say as soon as they get approval they will start renovations at Roosevelt.
Charter School Founder Bishop Dwane Brock said, "It is a phenomenally built building, like a fortress. We're talking about probably $3.5 million to fix the roof, some windows, new heating and plumbing, some electrical work and the building is ready to be open for business."
Supporters say the school is open to all children in the region.
