Every year, more and more people are doing their holiday shopping, online. All that online shopping is making the package shipping business, busier than ever.
At the Erie U-P-S headquarters, they expect the volume of packages to be up at Christmas time. But this year volume is already up 8% from last year at this time.
On their busiest day last season, the local U-P-S warehouse delivered 25 thousand packages to 13 thousand different addresses in the Erie area. This year, they've already beat that record day, and management team member, John Sass says it's only expected to get busier.
"What do you do if your business doubles for two months of the year? What we do is hire people to help. Already we've hired in excess of 100 people...some in the warehouse and some that ride with drivers to help them deliver all those packages," said Sass.
The drivers run 62 routes from the Ohio line to the NY state line and as far south as Corry. The seasonal workers will be on the job through Christmas Eve. Some are hoping this part time work leads to a full time job.
