At the Vietnam Vets Post 52 in Meadville, volunteers are joining forces to make the holidays a little brighter for our troops.
Kim Lengling and members of Project Support our Troops are packing over 500 boxes, which will be sent to American soldiers serving overseas.
"This Christmas packing is the beginning of our 14th year," said Lengling. "Packing and shipping boxes to our troops all around the globe, for 14 years, each and every month. When you think about that, it's pretty phenomenal."
Each box, contains items that many might take for granted. Simple pleasures, like beef jerky, snack food, an playing cards. Veterans like Alvin Zategalo will tell you, these little things make a huge difference.
"Anytime you're at war, you get something like this, you really appreciate it," said Zategalo. "It lets you know, at least someone is back here thinking about you."
But Lengling and members of the group don't expect a thank you. They do it to support the men and women that sacrifice everything, for our freedom.
"It makes a huge difference," said Lengling. "Even if it brings a smile just for a couple of seconds on a bad day for them, then that is worth all the hours and efforts we put into it."
