Erie City Council today started it's review of Mayor Sinnott's proposed 2013 budget. The $63 million spending plan does not call for a tax increase.
A one time state pension payment of more than $2 million is helping to avoid a tax hike, while increasing police overtime funds to fight crime.
Council spent today looking over the public works budget, and they will analyze the proposed spending in other departments in the coming days. But members don't expect to make any major changes.
City Council member Bob Merski said, "It is a pretty lean budget, not many changes from last year. One of the things the administration has been very good at is equating the revenue with expenses and really balancing the budget. So I see nickel and dime changes. But I really don't see a lot to cut. It is a pretty bare bones budget."
Council will hold it's second review session Thursday evening, focusing on the police and fire department budgets.
