A growing aerospace parts manufacturer based in Crawford County is expanding and adding jobs, thanks to the Economic Progress Alliance. Acutec makes parts for the big guys: Boeing, Bell Helicopter and Airbus. They already occupy 80 thousand square feet inside the Crawford Business Park. That space will more than double thanks to a 2.65 million dollar investment from the Economic Progress Alliance and an $843,250 Department of Community and Economic Development Infrastructure Development Program grant.
The expansion means the Crawford Business Park's one million square feet of developed space will be fully occupied and Acutec will be able to add 60 more jobs. Rob Smith, President of Acutec said, "Economic Progress Alliance has been tremendous help because we need space and this is relatively inexpensive space, not drawing our capital, as a result we can invest in equipment, it's all new and very expensive and we'd rather put our money in training the people, so having space is a tremendous benefit."
Acutec is looking for skilled machinists or people with good attitudes willing to learn. Acutec has just signed a new ten year lease with the Crawford Business Park.
The Economic Progress Alliance says the infrastructure improvements to the Business Park, including new elevators and expanded parking will allow the development of more business space in the sprawling former Avtex Textiles facility. "Even in this economy we have companies coming to us looking for space that we can't accommodate," said Mark Turner. Turner says the investment will provide more space going forward.
