There is some god news for property owners in Meadville. The 2013 preliminary budget calls for a small tax cut.
The final vote is later this month. It includes a half-mill cut in taxes.
City Council members started the budget process with a $300,000 deficit, but by switching the employee health insurance plan and refinancing old bonds, they saved money.
City Manager Joe Chriest said, "We ended up changing the type of health insurance we provide which saved up almost $140,000. We had a bond refininacing that will save $180,000 next year."
City offcials say while they are happy with the savings, they warn that expenses continue to go up which could mean higher taxes in the future.
