PennDOT is finally preparing to replaced the closed Mead Avenue bridge in Meadville. It was closed after an inspection in 2007.
But now the financing is in place and work is expected to start next year, and wrap up in 2014. City officials and nearby business owners are excited.
Gary DeSantis, founder of Janitor Supply and Party Store said, "I am delirious. I want to scream and holler with joy that this is going to be done."
Scott Hanaway, Tech Molded Plastics President said, "It is important that we get that open not just for Mead Avenue, for all the community."
City Manager Joe Chriest said, "It allows better access for emergency vehicles and deliveries. It is just another key part to bring people to downtown."
PennDOT will hold a public hearing to outline it's plans for the project on December 11, at 6:30pm at the Douglas Conference Center in Meadville.
