It is now officially Christmastime in downtown Erie. Santa Claus and Mayor Joe Sinnott Friday evening, kicked off the Christmas season by flipping the switch for the annual Downtown d'LIGHTS.
Thousands of lights now shine throughout downtown in Perry Square. Special to this year is the return of the tree on top of the Boston Store.
Mayor Sinnott tells us that this year's lighting was extra special.
"We had Erie Insurance, we had the big tree on the Boston Store and big wreath at HANDS, as well as Gannon lighting up as well," said Mayor Sinnott. "We have more lights, a lot of people down here tonight and it really is a lot of fun."
The event was organized by Erie Downtown Partnership, as a way to revitalize the downtown area.
