You could set sail for Christmas at the annual Barber Christmas Ball. Hundreds of people were dancing the night away in style at the Bayfront Convention Center. The Barber Ball is a longstanding tradition that supports the work of the Barber National Institute. President and CEO, John Barber and his wife Bridget say it is the signature fund raising event to carry on the work started by Dr. Gertrude A. Barber. "We expect to raise over 100 thousand dollars for the programs at the Barber National Institute," said Barber, "it's a credit to the community that they continue to support and care for Dr. Barber's very special people."
Organizers say the event continues to grow and to attract people of all ages. Mrs. Barber wants the community to know that state and federal funding cuts are impacting the Barber National Institute. She hopes people will visit their web site at www.barberinstitute.org by December 12 to learn how they can vote to help the institute secure a special funding grant.
