Residents in the Bear Lake area in Warren County have a chance to ask questions this week about plans for wastewater disposal wells in their area. At the end of November, the EPA cleared the way for a company called Bear Lake Properties LLC, to dispose of wastewater from fracking in Warren County. Plans are to use former natural gas wells near Bear Lake to inject and dispose of water and brine from marcellus shale fracking operations.
In September, we reported on residents in that area protesting the project. In spite of their worries about any risk to the groundwater, the Environmental Protection Agency has issued permits for the project. Both state and federal officials plan to meet with the residents on Wednesday December 12 to answer their concerns and questions. The meeting is set for 6:00 PM at the Columbus Township Fire Hall on West Main Street. The project will move forward, unless an appeal is filed in federal court by next month.
