A Meadville family is looking for answers after they say their horse was shot right between the eyes over the weekend. Marlee and Cheryl Gilson of Meadville say they made the discovery about 10:00 PM Friday at their farm in East Mead Township. The horse named, "San Smashin' Success" was in a small paddock outside his barn.
The Gilsons believe the animal was shot when no one was at home. When Cheryl came home, and went to feed the horse, she saw the wound. She says, the angle of the shot saved the animal's life, apparently traveling through the nasal passages. The horse will need to have some reconstructive surgery. "Sus" as they call him, is an 8 year old quarter horse gelding shown at many Crawford County 4-H events.
The Gilsons say the PA Game Commission Office in Franklin is investigating. WICU/WSEE contacted them, but dispatchers on duty could not confirm that an investigation is underway.
