Work is moving forward on a long-range plan for Erie. The project is called "Destination Erie", and it's the first long range plan for the region in 50 years.
The team working on the plan says it has almost completed Phase One of the project. That includes identifying the strengths and weaknesses of our region. Strengths include higher education, water and sewer, and housing affordability. Weaknesses include job growth, the labor force, the housing stock, and public schools.
"It's a three-year process. This is kind of the first big milestone in it. Roughly a year from now, or a little less, we'll hit another major milestone, which is the output of how we use this data."
The project is funded by a $1.8 million federal grant.
