For the first time in a month, both sides sat down today to try to avoid a faculty strike at Edinboro and 13 other state-owned universities.
No deal was reached after several hours at the bargaining table. But the two sides agreed to meet again on December 19.
Last month, the faculty voted overwhelmingly to give their negotiators the go-ahead to call a strike if no agreement can be ironed out. But no strike would happen until January at the earliest.
Still, even the possibility of a strike continues to cause plenty of concern among Edinboro students.
The faculty and the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education have been trying to iron a new contract for 2 years. They key differences are health care coverage for retirees, and pay for part-time faculty. But we've learned there has been some recent movement on both sides.
Faculty Union President, Jean Jones said, "I'm hopeful that things seem to be ever so slightly moving in the right direction."
